Meet Erin

I’m Erin Malone—gem cutter, metalsmith, and founder of Malone Gems. In the past two years, I’ve immersed myself in the craft, spending countless hours with my faceter learning how to shape rough stones into one-of-a-kind gems that carry both their natural history and my hand in every facet. My work blends precision with intuition, drawing on my background in fine metalsmithing to create stones that inspire extraordinary jewelry.

For me, cutting is more than technique—it’s collaboration with the stone itself. Every piece of rough arrives with a story written in color, texture, and shape. My role is to read that story and reveal it in a way that feels true, timeless, and unlike anything mass-produced.

My Approach to Gem Cutting

At Malone Gems, every gemstone begins with respect for its natural form. I don’t force the rough into a standard size or shape—instead, I follow its contours, study its inclusions, and let its natural beauty guide my work.

My goal is to preserve as much of the original material as possible while revealing its best color, brilliance, and personality. That’s why my faceted stones don’t always match calibrated dimensions or standard proportions. Each one is cut to honor the stone itself, not a predetermined mold.

The result is a gem that feels alive—singular, authentic, and impossible to duplicate. What this means technically is:

  • Stones are rarely calibrated to standard millimeter sizes.

  • Proportions may differ from industry “ideal” models to retain weight, color zoning, or unique inclusions.

  • Every stone is oriented for the best balance of face-up beauty, optical performance, and carat weight retention.
